Minority Muslim student leader Shajahan threatened in Assam by anonymous caller

Guwahati, Local correspondent: Lately coming a news from Barpeta Road, A well known social activist and AAMSU central committee leader Shajahan Ali Ahmed from Baksa district, Assam was threatened in Assam by an anonymous caller. Unlike his peers Shajahan is a journalist, a budding poet and very vocal student leader. On 21 December/2017 he received a phone call from and an unusual number+14000000000, the caller who spoke in pristine Assamese told that his name is Biplab.
The caller had threatened the AAMSU leader with life and limb if he doesn’t stop speaking up. Shajahan has been asked not to raise his voice anymore. He has been very vocal on Social media platform like Facebook, Twitter and uploaded various videos on YouTube exposing atrocities Muslims have been facing in Assam. As a student union leader, he regularly stages protest and ‘Dharna’ for the Constitutional rights of minorities.
It is known to all that Last August/2017 another prominent minority student union leader Lafiqul Islam Ahmed, the President of ABMSU was gunned down at Kokrajhar. Although the investigation was handed over to CBI, till now there is no breakthrough in the investigation. Shajahan Ali had lodged an FIR with Barpeta Road Police station regarding the threat he received from the unknown caller.The case has been registered at Barpeta Road police station vide number 544/17 and it is under investigation.
However, AAMSU General Secretary Rejaul Karim Sarkar told our correspondent, ” First we condemn the anonymous threatening and demand quick action against the culprit. We also inform to the district administration that either they arrest the culprit or we will stage a strong protest against harassment towards our activists and negligence of police.” The AAMSU GS also remembered,”ABMSU, late president Lafiqul Islam Ahmed who was gunned down by the anonymous and the case under the CBI jurisdiction but yet no progress and we don’t want to lose more activists like him.”
